Two traditions, one approach
Two of Asia's oldest healing traditions, each with its own materia medica. We source their key ingredients and formulate with them; what we cultivate ourselves sits in the middle, as the bridge.
Korean medicine
Hanbang · 한의학
- Red ginseng홍삼 · Panax ginseng
Steamed and dried ginseng root, traditionally used in Korean medicine as a restorative tonic.
- Jujube대추 · Ziziphus jujuba
The red date, traditionally used in Korean medicine to balance herbal formulas, and eaten as a nourishing food.
- Omija오미자 · Schisandra chinensis
The “five-flavour berry”, traditionally prepared in Korea as a tonic tea.
Mushrooms and microalgae
The organisms we are developing to cultivate in Dehradun, and the common ground between the two traditions. Reishi is yeongji in Korean medicine; cordyceps is known there as dongchunghacho, and its wild relative is prized across the Himalaya. Alongside them, microalgae such as spirulina and chlorella.
Ayurveda
Āyurveda · India
- AshwagandhaWithania somnifera
Traditionally used in Ayurveda as a rasayana, a rejuvenating tonic.
- TurmericHaldi · Curcuma longa
Traditionally used in Ayurvedic cooking and household preparations for centuries.
- TulsiHoly basil · Ocimum tenuiflorum
Traditionally taken in Ayurveda as a daily herbal tea.
- Himalayan shilajitShilajatu · mineral resin
A mineral-rich resin from Himalayan rock, traditionally used in Ayurveda as a rasayana.
The Korean and Ayurvedic ingredients are sourced from established growers and suppliers, and GaiaTara formulates with them; it does not cultivate them. Their uses are described as traditional uses only.
What we offer
For wellness, food and nutraceutical companies, and for research institutions.
Standardised ingredients
Standardised ingredients, from fresh biomass to dried powders and extracts, grown under recorded, controlled conditions.
Co-developed formulations
Co-developed formulations drawing on both Ayurvedic and Korean traditional knowledge, pairing ingredients such as ginseng and ashwagandha with our medicinal mushrooms, for wellness, food and nutraceutical companies.
Research partnerships
Research partnerships with universities, hospitals and institutes working on integrative traditional medicine.
Where we are today
GaiaTara is in its research and development phase. Species work and formulation research are under way, and cultivation is launching soon. We are now speaking with partners who want to be part of our first harvests.

Mushrooms & fungi
Ten species, each at its own stage: Cordyceps and Lion's Mane are our first cultivation, Chaga is long-term research, and the rest are in research and development. Each has its own page in the library.

Microalgae
Six organisms that need light rather than darkness — photobioreactors and illuminated systems in place of incubation rooms. All six are in research and development.
From the root network outward
Nothing will be foraged and hoped for. Everything will be grown, recorded and tested — in the same order nature works: slowly, from the root network outward.
Research
Sterile incubation and documented trials, species by species.
Cultivation
Filtered air, measured light, sterile substrate, recorded conditions.
Biomass
Fresh biomass, dried ingredients and powders.
Value-added products
Extracts and permitted finished products.
GaiaTara grows what the forest and the water already knew.
